Best Cordless Lawn Mower Reviews

Here are my top five choices for the best cordless lawnmower.

Every model is worthy of your money, but some of these mowers offer more features than others.

Bosch AdvancedRotak 36-650 – Best Cordless Mower

Bosch are a household name for good reason. Their AdvancedRotak 36-650 mower is the best of the bunch and claims the number one spot in our review.

This model is supplied with one battery, providing around 30 minutes of mowing time depending on the settings used and the length of your lawn. The supplied battery takes an hour to charge.

Considering the size and power of this mower, it’s 16.5kg weight is impressive and provides for easy manoeuvring in conjunction with the comfortable Ergo Flex handles.

It has a 42cm deck which provides a cutting width of 42cm. The 50 litre grass collection box is average in size but will allow you to mow a medium sized lawn without having to empty the bag.

The height adjustable cutting deck offers 6 cutting heights which allow you to cut as low as 20mm and as high as 70mm.

We particularly liked the grass combs which are designed to guide blades of grass into the cutting blade when you come up against a wall or other obstacle. This saves time as you shouldn’t then have to use your strimmer to finish off edges.

The Bosch 36-650 also features a rear roller between the rear wheels. This provides you with that attractive lawn stripe finish and will prevent lawn scalping when cutting along any edges.

The Bosch AdvancedRotak 36-650 is the best cordless lawn mower you can buy and is suitable for small, medium and large gardens.

Murray IQ18WM37 – Best Cordless Lawn Mower for Most People

The Murray IQ18WM37 is our second choice and is one of the best cordless lawn mowers for most people who don’t need a premium model or features they wont use.

You’re getting a mower that is well priced, is a good size, has all the features you need and has fantastic build quality.

The mower feels substantial and is powered by a Briggs & Stratton battery system which comes with two 18v lithium-Ion batteries which provide 32 minutes of run time. You’re also provided with a twin parallel battery charger which charges both batteries in 55 minutes.

The great thing about this system is that these batteries can be used in other Murray tools, such as grass strimmers, hedge cutters and leaf blowers.

The powerful brushless motor is designed to reduce wear and increases the operating lifespan of this model. The second advantage is much quieter operation which is great for urban areas.

The cutting deck size is 37cm and cutting heights range from 25mm – 75mm and are easily selected via the large lever to the side of the deck.

The grass collector can hold a decent capacity at 40 litres. You can also choose to remove the collector and allow cuttings to discharge from the rear, ideal for longer grass.

During testing, I was able to cut a few hundred square metres of long grass and the collector was only half full.

It’s one of the most comfortable mowers to use thanks to the soft grip handles and the fact that it only weighs 12.5kg makes it very easy to manoeuvre. The cutting blade is excellent and left a very neat finish. The only downside is the lack of a rear roller.

Best of all, the mower comes with a 5 year warranty and the batteries are covered by a 3 year warranty.

The Murray IQ18WM37 offers exceptional value for money and would be a strong recommendation even without the two batteries and the charging system.

Sprint 370P 18V – Best Budget Cordless Mower

The Sprint 37cm Cordless Lawn Mower 370P18V is powered by an 18 volt 5.0 Ah battery combined with a 36 volt brushless motor. The 37cm cutting width together with this powerful Briggs and Stratton battery make this mower perfect for medium lawns up to around 520m² in total area.

The Sprint 370P comes supplied with a large 40 litre grass collection box, allows you to choose between 7 cutting height positions ranging from 25mm to 75mm and provides a total of up to 45 minutes of running time. This mower can also “cut and collect” or “cut and rear discharge” grass cuttings depending on personal preference.

The Sprint 37cm cordless mower is the smaller sister model to the Sprint 44cm 440P18V and is designed for owners of medium sized lawns who would rather not use petrol or mess around with power cords. The difference between these two mowers is purely the width, making the 44cm mower more suitable for larger lawns.

Sprint are a subdivision of Briggs & Stratton which is why you’re provided with a B&S battery. This should provide some confidence that you’re getting a quality mower at a cost effective price.

We love this cordless mower and its definitely one of my favourites. If you have a smaller budget but don’t want to compromise on quality, the Sprint 370P 18V is for you.

Flymo Mighty-Mo 300Li – Great Budget Cordless Mower

The Flymo Mighty-Mo 300 is Flymo’s first cordless lawn mower and is very popular here in the UK.

It’s one of the smallest and cheapest models we’ve tested and is often all people ever need in a lawn mower.

It weighs less than 10kg and its 30cm cutting width means that manoeuvring it around even the smallest lawns is easy.

The battery provides 30 minutes of battery life from a 2 hour charge which is about average and is fine for small lawns.

Five cutting heights are available that range between 25mm – 65mm with the grass collection box providing a capacity of 30 litres.

The battery is well suited to shorter lawns but can struggle with longer grass. We recommend keeping your lawn short to avoid struggling to cut it on a single battery charge.

The build quality and finish aren’t anywhere near as good as our top recommendations but then this model is so much cheaper that it shouldn’t really matter.

Overall, it’s a great mower for small lawns or if you simply don’t want to spend much. Great value for money and more than up to the job.

Greenworks Tools GD40LM46SP – Best Cordless Lawn Mower for Large Gardens

The Greenworks Tools GD40LM46SP is a battery powered self-propelled cordless lawn mower that is supplied with two high power 2Ah 40v Samsung lithium-ion batteries and is suitable for lawns up to 750m² in size.

It features a large 46cm cutting deck, a 55 litre grass collection box, 7 cutting heights from 25mm to 80mm and weighs in at 29kg. The mower is also supplied with both mulching and side-discharge plugs, a safety key and is covered by a 3 year Greenworks warranty (2 years on the battery).

The inclusion of two 40v batteries means that there isn’t a lawn long enough to cause this mower any trouble. Battery run time is around 30 minutes but the 46cm cutting deck should ensure that you’re finished mowing before needing to recharge.

The Greenworks Tools GD40LM46SP boasts many impressive features such as adjustable speed, mulching capability and a self-propelled function that means the difference between a hard afternoon spent cutting the grass and a quick bit of light mowing.

The biggest disadvantage is the high overall weight, which can make taking it in and out of the shed a chore. But when mowing, this extra weight quickly disappears.

If your garden is big enough and you need the extra power, the Greenworks Tools GD40LM46SP is well worth a look.

Why Choose a Cordless Lawn Mower?

The average garden size in the UK is getting smaller, due in part to new build houses having smaller gardens and less green space.

Many people therefore find that petrol mowers are unnecessary in these smaller gardens.

You could use a corded electric mower or hover mower but the limitation there is the short power cords they’re often supplied with. It is also very easy to cut through a power cable when trying to manoeuvre around a small garden.

This is where cordless lawn mowers have a big advantage over corded electric mowers.

The other big advantage is that they don’t emit combustion emissions as is the case with even the best petrol mowers.

Potential Reasons Not to Choose a Cordless Mower

As good as battery cordless lawn mowers are, they’re not always the best choice in some situations.

Large, overgrown lawns are usually not the best match for a cordless lawn mower. This is because you’ll probably run out of battery charge before you can finish the job.

You can buy larger batteries with greater capacity, but this can quickly increase costs. For larger lawns, a petrol mower or a ride on mower is often the better choice.

Homes with small gardens and lawns might be better off with a manual hand push lawn mower instead. They’re much lighter and very manoeuvrable which are the characteristics best suited to tight spaces.

If you’d rather someone or something else cut the grass for you, you could choose to invest in a robot lawn mower. Simply program it as required and it’ll automatically dispatch itself for grass mowing duties.

Final Verdict

Cordless lawn mowers are becoming increasingly more popular and there are lots of them available to buy.

So much choice isn’t always a good thing though and some models aren’t worth your time or money.

I have shortlisted the better models and reviewed only those to help you find the best cordless lawn mower based on your requirements. Whether you have a small budget, need a roller for lawn striping or simply want the best with no compromises.

The best cordless lawn mower you can buy today is undoubtably the Bosch AdvancedRotak 36-650.
